I know that Macey's grocery is having their case lots sale right now this is a great time to stock up on all the good things.
Try this month to stock up on things we don't usually think of. Like toilet paper, deoderant, feminine hygiene, tooth brushes and, tooth paste. Not a lot of people think about those things when thinking about food storage.

This was handed to me by the Bishop and I thought I would share. It has some great tips.

DRY PACK CANNING ( 615 E 8400 S)

Tip #1
Check the last few pages if the Stake Directory to find the date and time of the next Stake Canning day. (and other welfare oppertunities)
We need to utilize the Cannery. We have 2 stake days coming up Nov 7th 5-9 and Dec 17th 1-5.
We were also told that it is not getting used enough and that you can go anytime. This is something that is readily available to us and that we should use more.

Tip #2
If you have bags of dry product to store and want to put it in a 5 gallon container, purchase 5 0xygen packets from the dry pack and layer One gallon of product then a packet and so on. Oxygen packets last only 20 min in the open air, keep closed until used.

Tip #3
The dry pack in Sandy is fun and easy. there are people to instruct you if you have never been there.

Tip #4
Go to Provident living.org and you will find an order form for all the products with the pricing and shelf life. You can fill it out before you go, if you wish.

Tip #5
The Stake has a pouch sealer that can be checked out for personal use by contactinf Yvonne Petty at 446-6581. You must provide your own pouches and oxygen packets, which can be obtained at the dry pack in Sandy. Pouche sealers and Canners are also available at teh Sandy Cannery, Call to reserve one 561-8104

MONEY SAVING GROCERY SHOPPING

Tip #1
Make a list before you go. Try to stick to the list , and don't impulse buy. (If you can leave the kids home, that will help)

Tip #2
Plan meals around what is on sale and what is in your food storage that needs rotation.

Tip #3
Use manufacture coupons as much as you can. When combined with store coupons or sales, they can help greatly with savings. You do not have to take a newspaper to get coupons. You can go to sites like coupons.com, couponsuzy.com, and direct manufacture web sites such as General mills, betty Crocker, malt-o-meal. Rebates may be available on many non-food items on sites as well. (put your printer on gray scale to save on colored ink)

Tip #4
Buy a Freezer if you don't yet have one. These can be obtained secoundhand on websites, newspapers or purchased at scratch and dent warehouses for a reasonable amounts. this will allow you tho really stock up when things like grilling meat are on sale during the summer and turkeys are on sale at Thanksgiving time etc.

Tip #5
Shop the case lot sales for your food storage and everyday meals.

Tip #6
Plant a garden. Share and swap produce with others. Plan ahead for the next year.

DATE NIGHT!!!

YEs we all desperatly need one. in fact we have been greatly encouraged to do so by our church leaders once a week. But what about the babysitter when you are short on dough? Swap with another couple where you watch each other's childeren. Or maybe create your own babysitting co-op where you get points for how many hours you watch childrenan then redeem them with your group. Don't forget that is costs very little to go to the temple and the spiritual, mental peace and the blessings derived are priceless.

I love how the church makes it so easy for us the have the basics.
They have put together a Food Storage Starter Kit that you can have shipped to your home or you can pick it up at the distribution center. They also purchase pinto beans, rice, wheat, and quick oats by the case.

If any of you have any FRUIT or VEGETABLES in your gardens that you do not want or have a need for. Please let us know. We have others in the ward that might have a need and will come and pick and harvest those crops. If you are one that would like to harvest please let us know as well so we can point you in the right direction.

Case Lot Sale

Harmons is having a great case lot sale Sept 1 - Sept 21. This is a good time to stock up on a few things. Remember to get what you will use. Also when you use it, replace it. not when it runs out. That way you can keep up the food storage and it doesn't go bad.

Eggs 'n' Toast

Jason and I were called as the Emergency Preparedness and Provident Living Specialist. This is something that is dear to our hearts and feel an urgency in the matter. Jason and I have been working very hard this year trying to be self-reliant. We bought Chickens in Feb of this year. To fill 2 purposes. One being that our girls wanted them as pets and two to know how to raise our own chickens. We also have stopped buying bread. I make Whole Wheat Bread every week. Well almost. I thought we could live off eggs and toast if we needed to. So that is how I came up with the site name. Being prepared is as simple as eating eggs and toast.
